Kansas City Tour Stop
For the first time, the Kansas City satsang hosted H.H. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj and his dear wife, Mata Rita Ji, for a 3-day tour stop from April 17-19, 2009. Many people from all over the United States as well as from South America and Europe joined the spiritual Master’s party, staying at the lovely Doubletree Hotel in Overland Park where many of the programs took place. One of the participants reported, “During the program there were many opportunities to spend time in the august presence of this great saint.” Another participant noted, “Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj’s discourses were powerful and delivered with an intensity and liveliness that really brought home the main points of spirituality. For me it was life-changing.” During the program, the local group arranged for an early morning meditation from 4:30 - 8 AM and a showcase satsang from 9 - 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday, April 17th, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj gave a public discourse in the ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel entitled, “Meditate and Journey to Spiritual Realms.” In prelude to his discourse, Mata Rita Ji sang a beautiful hymn.
It’s a great joy to be in Kansas, the spiritual Master said. He then made reference to the 1939 classic film, “The Wizard of Oz.” Kansas was the place where Dorothy and her little dog were transported to a land over the rainbow, he recounted, a land of colors and a land of joy. Likewise, he said, we all can be transported to the regions Beyond by meditating on the inner Light and Sound of God. As human beings, we have been given all the faculties we need to go on this spiritual journey. True happiness and all the divine treasures, the spiritual Master said, are embedded within us, ready to be tapped into. Only meditation allows us to be one with God; and when we are one with God, he explained, we find oneness with all of creation.
“His discourse touched on all the finer points of the spiritual path, how to meditate and why meditation is the most important activity we can engage in during our lives,” reported an attendee. Following his talk, the spiritual Master put everyone into meditation. Afterward, a delicious vegetarian dinner was served in the ballroom. The evening concluded in the early hours of the morning with Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj greeting everyone. “The spiritual energy was very intense,” said one attendee, “and I felt so much joy. When I looked around me, it was as if every face was radiating a beautiful light, all reflecting the great light of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj.”
On Saturday, April 18th, in the early afternoon, the program took place at the Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of Kansas City, near the hotel in Shawnee, Kansas. His talk in Hindi was translated into Spanish and English for the audience. When the spiritual Master arrived, he was greeted by its president, Sai Chimalakonda, who brought Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Rita Ji into the temple for a special blessing by the priest. An assistant later explained that this ceremonial blessing was given to the temple’s visiting dignitaries.
Mata Rita Ji opened the afternoon program by singing a beautiful bhajan. We need to lead a life where we connect with the Holy Word, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj began. The Shabd or Holy Nectar (also called the Naam or Power of God) is flowing twenty-four hours a day and we need to take a divine dip into this nectar which exists within every particle of creation. We can connect with it by meditating on the inner Light and Sound of God, he said. The spiritual Master urged the audience to live a life that embraces all, by understanding that God lives in everyone. He explained that meditation leads to personal transformation, which in turn leads to transformation of families, communities, cities, countries and eventually the whole world. After this powerful discourse, he put the audience into meditation. A delicious vegetarian meal (langar) followed. Later, the spiritual Master greeted everyone present.
“A wonderful impromptu program happened later that day when we all were invited to the nearby Gurudwara,” shared one of the attendees. “It was the celebration of Vaisakhi when the Sikh scriptures or Guru Granth Sahib is recited non-stop for three days. We all went with Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj and sat in the Gurudwara, listening to the recitation.”
Later that evening, the spiritual Master returned to the Hindu temple for a program where poetry and spiritual songs were performed. People young and old had an opportunity to express their spiritual aspirations through music and poetry to an enthusiastic audience. “The highlight for me,” recounted one participant, “was when we requested the spiritual Master to sing a ghazal from the poetry of his father, Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj. His voice sounded profoundly beautiful to me.” Another person said, “In the spiritual Master’s explanation of the ghazal that he sang, what really touched me was one of the verses which he translated as, ‘You can only see the radiant form of the Master with the heart of your inner eye.’ I thought that was very beautiful.”
On Sunday, April 19th, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj gave a public talk at the Doubletree Hotel entitled “Gain Inner Peace in Turbulent Times.” Mata Rita Ji opened the program with a beautiful shabad. Everything in this world is a dream, said the spiritual Master. When we tie ourselves to something which is ephemeral, he said, we will be in turmoil. He then talked about getting to know our True Self as soul and gave advice for focusing within at the single or third eye where we can gain access to the spiritual regions. The spiritual Master then talked about the difference between the exoteric and esoteric sides of all faiths. Whereas exoteric rituals of faiths may differ, many of the rituals serve as reminders of the divine Light or Sound of God that shines within, he said. The esoteric side of all faiths, however, are the same, and teach us about the journey of the soul. Meditation, he explained, is a means for us to nurture our soul on this journey.
Following his discourse, the spiritual Master graciously imparted the instructions for holy initiation on the inner Light and Sound of God to many new seekers. A boxed-lunch was distributed to everyone present. “The evening closed with Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj once again meeting everyone and distributing prashad,” reported a participant “The entire tour felt so peaceful. It was like a family atmosphere with everyone pitching in to do selfless service. Everyone was so loving, and the spiritual Master poured out his blessings to us all.”
